CARRY ON
PARENTING

The latest in a steady trickle of multi-use products is the Cuddle Karrier, a nylon hip-sling-type child carrier that also serves as a waist pack or a mini diaper bag, and in a pinch could serve as a safety belt in a shopping cart.

The key question with a multi-use product is: Does it perform any of the functions particularly well? With the Cuddle Karrier the answer is mixed. As a hip sling, the pouch/seat area is smaller and doesn't offer as much back support as most carriers, but it works surprisingly well for babies who have good head control. As a waist pack it's fine, although it offers much less storage space than most diaper or shoulder bags. However, if you're traveling light, there's room for a couple of diapers and a change of clothes, and there's a way to clip on a rolled-up blanket.
It's hard to imagine this as the only carrier you'd buy, but for people who like to go where strollers can't, or who do a lot of air travel with little ones in tow, the Cuddle Karrier should prove useful.
