*Editors note: Most stores now offer carts with security restraints. The advantage is you choose your own clean cart...one that does not have a left over snack etc. ...one that has been outdoors...washed by the rain and sterilized by the sun's UV rays.

" the non-skid dots of the Cuddle Karrier shoulder piece
may irritate sensitive skin*...so when using it with a low neck shirt or swim suit, slip a baby face cloth under it (it offers double duty, now you've got a readily available burp up cloth). A longer term solution is to cut the foot off of a black sock and slip it over the shoulder piece. Roll the cut edge inside for a finished look. Recycle sock tops in a variety of colours to colour coordinate.

*Editors note: Our design team examined the idea of changing the shoulder piece and replacing the non-skid rubber dots with other material. Upon examination and review of customer opinion, we found the non skid feature adds greatly to ease of use of the Cuddle Karrier and all things considered, too valuable to eliminate. To offer two interchangeable pads; would increase the cost and would out weigh the benefit. We tried the above solution and it works wonderfully. You may even want to use a 'Character Sock' i.e. Disney or the like to add a bit of whimsy to the solution.

"because I like to know what my baby is eating ,
I prefer to make her food, myself.
To save time I make up large batches
and then freeze them in ice cube trays ...

when they are frozen, I put them in zip lock bags
for fast and easy meals...
they separate easily and make the right size servings
without waste...
microwave to warm them...
mix thoroughly to avoid hot spots
after microwaving!

"I have discovered a great all purpose natural product-
TEA Tree Oil.
Apparently it's not new...been around for years...just new to me. It is an all natural salve and due to its nature as a solvent it safely penetrates the skin to work well as an antiseptic, mild anesthetic and promotes healing as it doesn't damage healthy tissue... great for bee stings, sun burn and in various dilutions with water and olive oil, is a great cure for everything from sore throat to athlete's foot!
Many people especially in Australia, where it originates, call it a -"FIRST AID KIT" in a bottle,
for good reason. Saves carrying a ton of other salves and potions.

Look for it in health food stores.

Editors note: Tea Tree Oil added to shampoo is one of the best cures for the headache of head lice that circulates through schools every few years!

Now that it has gained more popularity it is available in pharmacies and many stores. The good news in that the price has dropped dramatically. Buy the 50ml size and save. Watch... it is available in diluted form (10% - 20%) and pure (100% Tea Tree Oil)....the price varies accordingly.

"Quick and easy bib...
...we were having lunch out with our baby at a food court in the mall and had forgotten to bring along a bib
....my practical husband who had just come from the dentist, said "We should use one of those chains with the clips the dentist uses to hold a paper towel on a patient."...he then proceeded to go next door to a Radio Shack and pick up a bag of things called electrical test leads with 'alligator' clips on each end for about $4. (we have enough for our playgroup and then some...there is about ten in a pack and in neat colours too!)...they work wonderfully to turn a napkin into a bib and with "NO washing of bibs either!"

"here's a tip to keep your drinks cool,
pumped breast milk chilled longer...baby bottles of milk warm or cool ...depending on your needs...just wrap them in a diaper...disposable ones work particularly well... the ones with re-usable tapes, just wrap the diaper around the container and tape in place for an efficient thermal blanket...they are great for taking your own cool ones to the beach too!"

for piggy backing older children...
two ways we have used it are...

use it the conventional way but position the 'seat' at your back...children can sit on the 'seat' with a leg on either side of your waist...fast and easy but not as comfortable for a heavier child, as weight is more localized - see below of optional method

...or position the carrier around your waist...open up the shoulder strap to make the largest opening...position shoulder strap padded area in front of you...grasp it and lift up over your head and then position at the back of your neck..straps go under each arm...positioning the 'seat' at your back for children to sit upon...they hold on to you and your arms are free...ideal for the return hike home when their energy runs down and the whining..."how much further????", starts!

a great portable high chair...
(used with or without leg straps depending on age of the baby)
...just use it backwards and fasten the shoulder strap around a chair back
and snug it up to hold your toddler in place.

...when she was real small I used it to support her when she was on my lap for feeding...it gave me hands free...one for the spoon and one to wipe the spit-ups!"

"I recycle M&M's re-sealable candy containers which come in a variety of colours, the lid is attached and opens easily with one hand.
They are handy for travel sized portions of wet-ones,* zinc cream, and other diapering needs...they are a great way to pack a lot in a small area....they are great for purse or pocket too!"

"I carry one with Cheerios or Raisins for an emergency snack and distractor"

"I carry one with a few crayons...an easy way to keep a little one occupied while dining out or stuck in a waiting room"

*...or home made ones, make them by moistening tissues with sterile water and a touch of baby oil.
I have one container with wet-ones moistened with water and a little alcohol for giving questionable change tables etc. a wipe when out and about"

Editors note: Tea Tree Oil diluted, is a great antiseptic. Recycle a small 'trial size' spray bottle, fill with Tea Tree Oil diluted with water and spray change areas as an excellent disinfectant (see tip regarding TEA Tree Oil on this page for further information).

"Emergency door lock for toddlers...
...we found ourselves in a holiday situation where
our toddler was able to open the door to the pool
and there was no safety lock...so we used a sock over the door knob, held in place with a rubber band...we could open it but his little hands couldn't grip it...so we could relax a little and we did get a holiday after all!
