The Cuddle Karrier was born out of needs not met by conventional baby carriers. Twenty two years ago
Colin Knauf was a new parent. He discovered his son was happiest when he was 'in touch', at eye level, watching and learning about the world from the safety of dad's arms. At that time, child carriers were a new thing in North America. Only a very few existed other than the ages old fabric wrap sling. They positioned baby in front or back. Neither position felt right for Colin and his growing baby or the many parents and care-givers interviewed in his research. Carrying, on a parents hip, seemed more natural and had been practiced since humans started walking upright.
Mothers adapt to front carrying more easily. The brain and reflexes slowly compensate over nine months of gestation to the lose of seeing ones feet and the way ahead. Dads find a front carrier more difficult as their brain is without the same conditioning. Colin was intent on satisfying his children's need to be carried and his own work schedule and commitments. This meant carrying would have to be safe, comfortable, easy, and fast. It meant carrying in the most convenient and satisfying way both for him and child. For him that meant carrying on the hip for comfort and convenience as well as positioning baby out of the line of sight. As the WAHD (work at home dad) and prime care giver to his second child, it was necessary to carry and get his work done. It is difficult to do meaningful work with baby in between you and your focus. The ideal carrier for baby meant comfort, a good view and to be able to put baby/child in and out easily and without waking if asleep. As toddlers in the up and down phase, his children loved to explore things up close, but then would want back up, soon after. Designing lots of freedom into the carrier and ease of use was essential to make the Cuddle Karrier work ideally, for the whole family.
Babies soon want a larger horizon to view than mom's and especially dad's chest. Facing out was not an option in earlier carriers and appeared risky to Colin, who had experienced a frightening fall with an early front carrier. Colin was determined to be able to carry his baby safely, even if it meant thinking out of the box and designing a brand new carrier. Which he did.
The Cuddle Karrier gave him more
freedom and he and baby enjoyed more outings. Even with new freedom
he was burdened by all the equipment needed when leaving the house.
Knauf redesigned the carrier several times to address this issue.
Its utility grew and its uses too, but not its size. The Cuddle
Karrier serves eight nurturing needs. Its ingenious design allows
it to pack up small enough to fit in a purse, glove compartment
or conveniently inside itself as a hip/waist pack. No longer is
it just a great hip carrier. It is a multi-position front or side
infant carrier, toddler sling, waist pack, mini diaper bag, shoulder
tote/carry-all, security restraint for shopping carts, portable
high chair and comfy shoulder strap for baby's car seat.
Owners keep finding new ways for it to accommodate their changing needs as their babies grow and develop. We have identified eight ways here, but there are many more possibilities for customizing the Cuddle Karrier to individual needs.
We are proud of the many accolades the Cuddle Karrier has received from parents, pediatricians, the media, parenting resources and natural nurturing advocates. They love it and have told us. We know you will love it too...we are so confident we unconditionally guarantee -
...you will
love

Congratulations on making a great choice for you and your little one..."you can never carry them too much!"
Colin was a WAHD (work at home dad) and prime care giver to his daughter. As a male doing a lot of mom's job, Colin took great pride in noticing his daughter surpassed all the milestones of North American infant development. He boasted that she talked clearly and lucidly, walked early, trained early, never knocked over, broke or spilled things etc. It led him to believe his skills as a parent were amazing and of course the family gene pool was obviously not too shabby either. You can imagine how the wind was knocked from his pompous sails, when reading research on attachment parenting, he learned these are typical behaviours of a carried child. This became an astounding revelation for him.
Mr. Knauf has spent a great deal of time researching the science that explores this area of human physiological and psychological development.
Learning and teaching about natural nurturing has become his passion. What he has learned is AMAZING!. Children carried, during their primal year -especially and preferably longer, enjoy immense health benefits both emotionally and physically. Their health, immunology, neural development, psychological make up, self esteem, muscle tone, coordination and general development are measurably enhanced. Brain mass is usually greater by 20-30%, with accompanying higher IQ. It doesn't take brain science....because intuitively we know it....but brain science has recently confirmed the simple action of physically carrying our infants on our body can change the world. Science has shown carrying and natural nurturing are the hallmarks of peaceful cultures and nations. Sadly, it is an area of science that receives almost no mass media attention. Probably due to the down side: natural nurturing is not good for business. Happy and healthy children don't want for much. Children with good self esteem are not easy prey for profit mongers. Children with a healthy immune system don't clear the shelves of the number two money maker of the global economy: Pharmaceuticals. And happy children are more tolerant. They are not predisposed to anti social behaviour and violence. With out these impediments to sociability it is hugely undermining to the number ONE driver of the global economy: War armaments.
Colin's goal as a result of his research, is to create greater awareness of human potential that results from 'hands on' nurturing. To have more opinion shapers and policy makers in the loop regarding recent scientific findings. Mr. Knauf wants to encourage more parents to take more active, hands on roles in raising children once again. If we are to rid our continent of it's many ills, it is absolutely vital.
We need to put parenting prudence at the top of our priorities NOT profit. Health and peace will follow.
If we want to stop razing the planet - we must start raising happy and healthy children.
